How To Set New Year Resolutions You'll Keep?
Jan 01, 2023Happy New Year!
Are you setting any New Year’s resolutions for 2023?
The most popular resolutions for 2022 were
- Living healthier (23%)
- Personal improvement and happiness (21%), and
- Losing weight (20%).
Studies pointed out that 23% quit in the first week, and only 36% made it past the first month.
Only 9% successfully kept and felt they achieved their New Year’s resolutions.
Another study conducted by Forbes shows that nearly 80% of people admitted to abandoning their New Year’s resolutions by February
Common reasons for failure were:
- Setting unrealistic goals.
- Not keeping track of your progress.
- 23% said they forgot about their resolutions.
- One in 10 people simply make too many resolutions.
In order to avoid setting shallow and unrealistic goals it is important to deeply understand why you want to change. What’s your big motivation? Why is it now necessary to change?
Not feeling that deep desire to learn that new skill or to change your habits for the better will drain your motivation in a matter of weeks, or even days.
What can you do to join the 9% that succeed?
Only set New Year’s resolutions that are highly relevant, timely, and specific to you.
Focus on setting one specific and challenging long-term goal, and consistently set small and realistic short-term goals. But don't set too many goals at once. it is better to have one small goal that you'll achieve, than 10 huge goals of which you will achieve none.
In my next post I will tell you more about why people fail to keep their New Year's resolutions in personal improvement and happiness. I promise it will be insightful!
